Prior Art

About

"Prior art", sometimes known as "state of the art", is a term used in intellectual property law. It represents the compendium of all knowledge that has been shared to the public.

When assessing the originality of an invention, one compares the invention against prior art to determine whether it is a meaningful step forward from what has already been created and shared.
